HISTORY
Originally, Cancun was populated by the ancient Mayan civilization until the Spanish arrived in the region and caused most of the indigenous people to leave. The foundation of Cancun as a world-famous resort begins in 1970 when the Bank of Mexico obtained a 27 million dollars loan for the infrastructural development of the area. By that time, Cancun was a small fishing village with a nearby military base that had only around 30 residents. The first hotels were built by the Mexican government because of the reluctance of the foreign investors to rely on an unfamiliar region. For the past thirty years, however, the resort have considerably grown and become a beautiful beach and famous resort.
